The annual conference of the Historical Sociolinguistics Network 2024 will take place from 5th-7th June in Zurichhttps://www.hison.org/index.phpand the theme will be „Diversity and uniformity across time and space“.https://www.ds.uzh.ch/de/tagungen/hison2024.html). The aim of the conference is, on the one hand, to examine the variation of linguistic phenomena against the background of various factors such as text types, regions and social situations and, on the other hand, to investigate processes of standardisation and the influence of associated ideologies. The first point is particularly relevant for our project, as we are investigating the hypothesis that different uses of man emerge in different text genres. We are very pleased that our presentation entitled "Referential and functional variation of the German impersonal pronoun man across historical genres: newspapers, comedies and witch trial protocols" has been accepted. We will present our initial findings on genre-specific and cross-genre uses of man in comedies, newspapers and witch trial protocolls.
